DRAFT TRADE: Traded to Oklahoma City Thunder

About Darius Bazley

Darius Bazley is perhaps the most enigmatic prospect available in the 2019 NBA Draft. A gifted athlete with very good size, Bazley was widely considered a top-20 prospect in the high school class of 2018.? After performing well at the McDonald’s All-American Game, Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoop Summit, Bazley opted to forgo his college career and spend the season focusing on his preparation for the NBA Draft in lieu of heading overseas. As a result, Bazley’s last year of experience was effectively his senior season at Princeton High School.

  • Possesses very good size for a forward measured at 6’9 in shoes with a 7’0 wingspan and an improving 208-pound frame to go along with an impressive combination of quickness and explosiveness.
  • The second prospect to enter the NBA Draft without playing for any team in the season prior to being selected in as many years.? Flashed intriguing versatility at the grassroots level showing some playmaking ability on both ends, talent and body control as a slasher, and instincts as a rebounder.?

Defensive Analysis

  • Intriguing defender with solid tools but limited experience. Can make some plays in the passing lanes and blocking shots flashing nice instincts, but has a lot of things to clean up on and off the ball as one would expect of a player whose most recent team-setting experience was at the prep level.
  • Has the feet to defend multiple positions as he gets stronger.? Shows very good intensity defending one-on-one in spots getting low and being physical.?

Career Highlights

  • Played for the the USA Junior National Select Team in the 2018 Nike Hoop Summit.
  • Finished with 11 points and seven rebounds in the 2018 McDonald’s All-American Game.
  • Totaled 12 points and nine rebounds in the 2018 Jordan Brand Classic.
  • Originally committed to Ohio State and then to Syracuse.
  • Withdrew his commitment to Syracuse in March 2018 and announced his decision to play in the NBA G League.
  • Ultimately decided to spend the 2018-19 season training for the 2019 NBA Draft.?

High School

  • As a Senior at Princeton (23-4) in 2017-18, averaged 15.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.4 steals in 25 games.
  • Selected Ohio Division I All-State First Team and All-Ohio First Team by USA Today.
  • Ranked as the ninth-best prospect in the 2018 recruiting class by ESPN, 12th by Scout.com and 20th by 247 Sports.?

  • Intriguing combination of size, length and skill.
  • Solid ball-handling and passing skills from the wing.
  • Comfortable with the ball in the open court.
  • Disruptive and instinctual defender for his age.?

  • Spent part of the 2018-19 season interning with New Balance after signing an endorsement deal with the brand in late 2018.
  • Didn’t get serious about basketball until his Freshman year of High School.
  • Fan of cartoons. Two favorites are Phineas and Ferb and SpongeBob SquarePants.?
